“For any child who has ever felt alone because of a chronic or life-threatening illness, The Painted Turtle Camp in Northern Los Angeles County offers a place where he or she can laugh and play, climb and swim, and just be a kid among other kids for a week. More often than not, the effect of that week is a whole year’s worth of positive self-esteem, and what will likely become a lifetime filled with special friends, self-confidence and self-respect.
The dream of Page Adler, The Painted Turtle took seven years to become a reality. The dream began when she volunteered as a cabin counselor at Paul Newman’s Hole In The Wall Gang Camp in Connecticut during the summers of 1989 and 1990. After seven years of initial fund raising, an in-depth needs assessment, a two-year search for the perfect location and more planning, a generous grant from the Weingart Foundation allowed Adler and her note-worthy Founders and Board of Directors to break ground in 2002.” (view source)
